theend
so, I have been putting off entering this post for a while. I suppose I don’t want to deal with the sentiment, so I wont. I will wrap my entire experience up in one word, life-changing. Ok two words. Honestly, I have seen the most amazing things, met some amazing people, and certainly changed for the better.  thanks swissmiss, we shall meet again.

visitors!
I have been lucky enough to have some lovely people come visit Lisa and I here in our beautiful bubble that is Luzern.  Laura, our friend from UIC GD came a few weeks back when we went to visit Lausanne in the French part of Switzerland. It was a dream and we just drank lots of coffee and Laura and Andreas may or may not have gotten married and celebrated their Honeymoon at the Lovely Lion...

TOPSHOP
So I really like London. It reminded me a lot of home but with funny accents. It was a whirlwind two weeks but I got to see and do a lot of amazing things PLUS see Kerry and Alex which was just spectacular. Just some highlights from the two weeks / Pub Crawl / Alex had a brilliant idea we go on a nice lil pubcrawl around London who knew it would turn into a hot, but fun mess. I brought some...

36 hour extravaganza
The craziest day+ of traveling I have ever done but it was worth it because I am in LONDON where they speak ENGLISH. I am so excited to make casual conversation with people instead of just nodding yes to the jumbled bits of swiss we here everyday at the coop.  Originally we were gonna keep friday night nice and quiet since we had to catch a 7am flight out of Zurich, but of course Andreas...

all work and no play makes katie a bad blogger
So how many weeks have we been here?? it’s all been a blur, but a very fun blur! many days spent drinking coffee and nights spent drinking beer and all the time working on grafik design. i had a presentation yesterday with the first years for our typeface based off of our illustrator project. I designed a typeface I call, superlativity. we had to speak about all of our work to the class and...

ballroom dancing & numb/encore REMIX
So many fun swiss times.  We went to some sort of indie music video premiere party at Bourbaki on Friday with Carolina, Sarah, and a new friend, Daria. The party was SO INDIE and so swiss. Lots of Animal Collective and Ratatat, and no dancing. Damn hipsters, i just wanna groove SO Sarah, Daria and I hopped on some bikes and went to the Roadhouse. The skeezy bar of Luzern with awful music that you...

…frog prostitutes. fun fact of the day, before the chemical miracles that are pregnancy tests, to tell if a woman was pregnant they would go to a chemical lab and pee on a frog and then the frog’s blood was extracted and examined.  Yes, we learn something new everyday here in die schwiez.

the most dangerous place, 123 go.
New project again. Now we must create a poster that encompasses our idea of the most dangerous place. to start the week off we watched a 3 hour apocalyptical movie originally in russian, dubbed in german. Hm, I would equate it to Holy Mountain PLUS it was in a different language.  But this project’s teacher is Martin Woodtli, he is amazing and very nice. I am excited to see how this turns...

communism & new friends
So, we have ventured to the new territory that the 2nd years occupy. Our principle, Urs says the 2nd years are no longer school children and truly care about design. Yeah, thats not intimidating at all.  But it turns out they are all just as nice as the naive little freshman [but we do miss their silliness at times]. We are in the middle of a 6 day long typography workshop, yeah SIX days, we have...

cool swiss times
As many of you know, I dislike snow sports, and often refuse to go on ski trips / in the snow period. BUT I overcame my distain and went on Mount Sarnen for ski day to Schlitten fahren aka sled down the mountain. It must be a swiss thing because Lisa and I were bloody awful. We basically fell / walked down the mountain and I am sure we provided many laughs for the swiss kids. Being on the...

week 3, holy cow.  Time goes by fast and slow, but I certainly do like it here. We are just about to finish up our first project in class and next week we will travel to the second year’s studio to begin a poster project, which is very exciting.  Yesterday Lisa and I booked our flight for London! We will be there from feb 26 to march 12. Eek! We travel with the third years, plus Alex from...

So, Black Swan is coming to the indie movie theater next week and Lisa and I are excited beyond belief. We have been telling all the kids about this movie and it’s coming here! I feel like the WHOLE SCHOOL [which is a whooping 90 people] will be there, which we are excited about. I kid from class, Gianni [Who I thought was named Johnny for about a week now] told us we should make posters to...

adventura Europa
So, I need to write this down before I forget, but it is 5 am, so please forgive me for the grammatical/spelling errors and I am about to make.  This afternoon, we went to Zurich to do the touristy things like the museum of design [which was amazing] & people watch will drinking starbucks by a fountain. We were a little lost in the city being two lowly americans, but we saw some cool things....
