cool swiss times
As many of you know, I dislike snow sports, and often refuse to go on ski trips / in the snow period. BUT I overcame my distain and went on Mount Sarnen for ski day to Schlitten fahren aka sled down the mountain. It must be a swiss thing because Lisa and I were bloody awful. We basically fell / walked down the mountain and I am sure we provided many laughs for the swiss kids.
Being on the mountain was one of the most dizzying experiences I have ever had. It was snowing an awful lot and at one point I was standing in the middle of the trail and was completely surrounded by white. I felt like I was in heaven and Cher was going to appear at any moment.
After ski day, we retired to the Spital for a nap and then met up with Caroline, Sara [the mini version of Linda BR], Gianni, Mahtola, Yvi, Severine, Celine, Helen - It was like the whole design school at Bourbaki to see Black Swan. It was still just as amazing at the first time and the kids all enjoyed it as well. It was in English, but with German and French subtitles, very interesting. After the movie most of the kids went home, but Sara, Gianni, and Caroline and us bar hopped until we reached a little bar near the hospital that was supposed to be having a karaoke night. But, once we arrived karaoke was no more and some strange girl talk-esq boys with neon raybans and headbands on were playing with the deejay equipment. it was awful, THEN “Hot Running Blood” came on stage, which consisted of one boy with ‘rock and roll’ tattooed across his chest and a guitar and a full band base track which he was playing and singing over. he had a hardcore fan-base of about 7 horny dudes who kept making strange hand gestures at the stage. I think it was an underground/swiss/hardcore/punk band, but there are really no words to describe what we saw that night.
After a decent nights sleep, Lisa and I got ourselves on a train to Saint Gallen, Swizterland. It is a hop skip and a jump away from the Polish border, which meant it was a 2.5 hr train ride from Luzern. But I was a very nice trip, we went to the Abbey of St. Gall a giant monastery/complex complete with a beautiful cathedral built in the 13th century. The heavily ornamented Baroque style architecture made me feel smack dab in the middle of an Art History lecture, but 100x cooler. Next to the church is an amazing Library called Stiftsbibliothek complete with 1000’s of hand written manuscripts and musical scores, including one of Mozart’s original pieces of sheet music and the oldest book written in the German language. I hardcored nerded out to the perfect calligraphy of the scribes who created these books. The library itself is a priceless artifact in German history, therefore it is not heated nor can visitors walk on the floor with their shoes, so every has to slide around in these funny slippers. It was quite funny and photographs were forbidden inside the library, but I got some great shots of the Cathedral and the exhibit of the architectual pieces beneath the library
It was a great weekend of tourist-y adventures and tomorrow is the symphony concert and I look forward to hearing our floormate Digeo play!
until then/
