36 hour extravaganza
The craziest day+ of traveling I have ever done but it was worth it because I am in LONDON where they speak ENGLISH. I am so excited to make casual conversation with people instead of just nodding yes to the jumbled bits of swiss we here everyday at the coop.
Originally we were gonna keep friday night nice and quiet since we had to catch a 7am flight out of Zurich, but of course Andreas convinced us to go to the 7$ Taxi show at Schuur. So we packed, got the the show, listed to some swiss/british pop, laughed at Lisa’s rain boots, and got to the train station by 1am, slept on a bench till 2:30am and got on the night aka drunk train to Zurich HB. SO MANY LOUD DRUNK SWISS BOYS, and of course we would run into an incredibly hammered David from the first years. He was returning from an end of term party we opted out of. He definitely added comic relief to the brutally annoying train ride. He had left his wallet at home and realized he was on the wrong train we where just about to arrive at our destination. What a goofball. so he waited with us at ZHB until his mom picked him up at 4am. We made friends with a Jamaican hotel manager who was sucking on a bottle of RedBull Vodka [yea, its Europe].
a lot more hours later and we finally reach the airport and I mentally prepare for my second flight ever. I was a little anxious but the view from the window seat made up for it. I got to see the sun rise from 1000s of feet in air. It was amazing, and so surreal.
We arrived in Heathrow by 8am London time and made our way to the underground to meet Andrea at Elephant & Castle. Lots and lots of transfers we found our fellow Chicagoan in an amazing leopard print coat waiting for us. And we started our day of sight seeing. Awake for 24+ hours we wasted no time. I got to see Borough Street Market, Big Ben, Parliament, the Eye, St. Paul’s, drink ale, eat fish and chips, watch France v. England rugby match, and ride a double decker in one day. And by 9pm crashed so hard but it was the best night sleep I have ever had.
Now we wait at the youth hostel which is decorated like mtv spring break with lots of exclamation points and gradients on their graphics. so epic, we are waiting for the swiss to arrive and begin our two week stay of amazingness.
I can’t wait to for out STCE reunion in London once kerbear gets here, that will be so much fun.
until later/
